AIZAWL, Aug 12 - From scarcity of labour and construction materials, to lack of space, to topographical challenges, Mizoram PWD has crossed every hurdle on its way to complete one of the biggest bridge constructions it has ever undertaken.

PWD officials told media persons on Saturday that even though they are behind schedule they hoped to open Aizawl Bridge, built across landslide zone at Khatla for all types of vehicles by September.

The steel arch bridge will be 50 metres long and six metres wide with a carrying capacity of 100 tonnes. The bridge is estimated to cost Rs 2.36 crore.

A Mizo engineer Dr R Lalthlamuana, a Ph D holder in Bridge Dynamics from IIT Guwahati, was roped in to draw the design, who offered his services free of cost.
