Update: 2010-09-15 00:00 GMT

GUWAHATI, July 10 - The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has called upon the State Government to roll back its recent decision to go for a hike in the Value Added Tax (VAT).

The party said in a statement that the hike in VAT will hurt the middle class and poor sections of the States population.

It said the BJP which came to power in New Delhi on promises of heralding Acche Din and in Dispur by promising Parivartan, has in reality acted against the interests of the common citizens.

The government is only working in the interests of the corporates and the elite class, said the Badruddin Ajmal-led party, and added that the government should immediately roll back the hike.
