AGP submits memo to President

BARPETA, Sept 16 - The Barpeta district committee of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has submitted a memorandum to the President of India through the Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta requesting him to withdraw the ordinance for providing shelter to the refugees belonging to certain religious communities. Large number of AGP workers and supporters gathered in the Shib Bari area of the town and moved along the town before reaching the office of the Deputy Commissioner.

The memorandum also demanded to solve the immigrants� problem following the provisions of the Assam Accord.

Addressing the gathering Gunindra Nath Das, president of the AGP district committee alleged that Assam will have to bear the burden of almost twenty five lakh of foreigners if the ordinance is implemented. He said that it will change the demography and economy of the State in the future.
