TINSUKIA, Feb 23 - The Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) has threatened an agitation in demand of wage hike for the tea workers of Brahmaputra Valley. According it has decided to organise symbolic protest rally in every Tea Estate on February 27 as its first phase of agitation. The units of ACMS of every tea estate will submit memorandums of their demands to the Chief Minister through the manager of the respective tea gardens.
In a press note released here by the president of the Sangha�s Panitola branch, Raju Sahu alleged that the bipartite meeting between the Sangha and organisation of the tea estate owners� body on fixation of wage for the tea workers has not been held after the expiry of the last decision on wage fixation on December 31, 2017.
Sangha has demanded immediate holding of the bipartite meeting on fixation of daily wage in an increased rate with effect from January 1 this year. Sangha further demanded that the travel allowances of the workers should be increased to Rs 6000 from the present rate of Rs 1500 and the house rent allowances for the permanent workers should be raised to Rs 500. The tea workers� body further threatened that it will intensify its agitation till its demands are fulfilled.
