DIBRUGARH, June 30 - The Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) today launched another series of agitation in the plantations to register their protest against the indifferent attitude of the planters towards revising the minimum wage of its workers.
Pertinent to mention that the wage agreements signed with the planters� body, Consultative Committee of Plantation Associations (CCPA) for the sub-staff (monthly salaried workers) expired some 22 months back and for general workers (fortnightly salaried worker) expired some 28 months ago. Despite several demonstrations earlier, CCPA, the umbrella organization of the tea planters, is tight-lipped and is not responding to our demands, Rupesh Goalla, general secretary, Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha told The Assam Tribune.
�As first phase of the agitation, workers today staged an hour-long demonstration in front of the office of their respective tea garden management and later submitted a memorandum to the management. In the second phase, we have decided to boycott work in all the tea gardens in the Brahmaputra valley on July 7 and on July 10, all garden units of ACMS along with their leaders will sit on hunger strike in front of the offices of their respective tea gardens,� stated Goalla.
