ABSU calls Udalguri bandh today

UDALGURI, June 14 - The Udalguri anchalik committee of the All Bodo Students� Union (ABSU) has called for a 16-hour Udalguri town bandh tomorrow (June 15) from 5 am to 9 pm to register its protest against alleged police atrocities upon the villagers of Nazareth village near Kaporpora Chowk under Udalguri Police Station on the midnight of June 10 in connection with the severe assault on a local youth on the suspicion of him being a child-lifter and damaging his vehicle by an unidentified mob.

A press release of the students� organisation issued by Swmdwn G Basumatary and Argeng Daimari, president and general secretary respectively of the organisation strongly condemned the incident of severe beating of a local youth and damaging his vehicle.

They demanded the release of the arrested persons unconditionally. The press note also appealed to the people of Udalguri town to maintain peace and harmony during the bandh hours.
