Abducted businessman rescued at Dimapur

KOHIMA, Feb 19 � An Assamese businessman who had been kidnapped by underground activists on February 11 has been rescued from Dimapur in Nagaland by the security forces, the Assam Rifles said today.

The businessman, identified as James Goyary, who was allegedly kidnapped by cadres of the GPRN/NSCN (Khole-Kitovi) on February 11, was rescued on Friday from a house at Burma Camp area in Dimapur, a press release said.

After receiving information about the kidnap of Goyary, a resident of Udalguri district in Assam, the Assam Rifles along with the Dimapur police launched an operation and rescued him.

Goyary, a building contractor, was kept blindfolded in a house, the release said adding the victim claimed the abductors had demanded Rs 5 lakh as ransom. � PTI
