AAU workshop on statistical methods

JORHAT, Sept 7 - Stressing the importance of application of statistical methods in agricultural sciences, the department of agricultural statistics of Assam Agricultural University (AAU) in association with the interdisciplinary statistical research unit of the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) is organising a three-day workshop from today at the university campus here.

Emphasising the significance of statistical methods in agricultural sciences in the inaugural programme, AAU Vice Chancellor Dr Kamal Malla Bujarbarua said that students of the university will reap the benefit of the workshop as statistics has became a vital part of modern day scientific preparation of agricultural data and analysis.

Dr Rita Saharay, an ISI professor, Dr Amita Pal, a retired professor of the ISI and Bikas K Sinha, a former member of the National Statistical Commission, are attending the workshop as resource persons.

Talking to reporters later, Bikas K Sinha said that the students will be taught about various methodologies and practical applications of statistics in agricultural studies during the workshop. �It will be of immense help in their future career,� he added.
