AASU registers strong protest against price rise

JORHAT, July 1 - AASU members of Jorhat district unit on Tuesday burnt the effigy of State Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury at the AT Road here near Marwari Thakurbari in protest against price hike of essential commodities due to alleged hoarding and black marketing by unscrupulous traders.

Bijoy Shankar Bordoloi, assistant secretary of the Jorhat district unit of AASU while leading the stir, came down heavily on Choudhury for his department failing to take action against unscrupulous traders across Assam, and in Jorhat in particular.

Executive member of the Jorhat district unit of AASU Bitupon Bora, executive member of Jorhat regional unit Chandan Bora and president of East Jorhat unit of AASU, Madhurjya Dutta took part in the protest stir.

AJYCP protest against fuel price hike: The� activists of Jorhat district unit of AJYCP on Monday burnt the effigies of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan at Gar-Ali here against the steep increase in prices of petroleum products. The protesters, led by State leaders of the students body, Siba Kalita and Babu Dutta, shouted slogans against the Central Government for continous hike of fuel prices in the past 20 days.

Sivasagar correspondent adds: The AASU Sivasagar subdivision unit burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at Sivasagar yesterday against the BJP government�s alleged failure in checking price rise of essential commodities. The AASU unit led by Sarat Hazarika, Samiron Phukan, Dipankar Saikia and others took out a demonstration and submitted a memorandum to the government.

In another demonstration, the Congress Sivasagar district and block committee also sat on demonstration in front of the Sivasagar DC�s office in protest against soaring prices of petroleum products.
