GUWAHATI, Oct 4 - Members of the All Assam Students Union (AASU) today staged demonstrations at the headquarter towns of all the subdivisions of the State in protest against the rise in prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas and other essential items.
The AASU members demanded urgent and effective steps from the government to arrest the rise in prices.
The students body said in a statement here that the Union government has been hiking the prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas every day, and the State government has failed miserably in arresting the prices of other essential items.
The AASU said that the approval by the State government to the hike in bus fares on the pretext of rising prices of petroleum products is going to hit common people hard.
The government has thus paved the way for further rise in prices of essential items, the students body said, reiterating its demand for firm steps to arrest the price rise.
