GUWAHATI, July 19 Protesting against the spiralling prices of essential commodities, the All Assam Students Union today organised demonstrations throughout the State, where all its district and regional units participated.

In a statement, it alleged that the price rise was the result of a nexus between the State Supply Department and unscrupulous traders, and the State government had completely failed to rein in the hoarders and handful of traders who are controlling the State markets.

Due to the inefficiency of the State government, the common people of the State are suffering. Hike in prices of all the essential commodities has left the poor and middleclass people of Assam in the lurch, said the statement.

Responding to the call, the All Guwahati Sub-Division Students Union staged a dharna in Guwahati demanding of the government to take concrete steps to check price rise.
