JORHAT, May 26 - AASU activists today staged a protest in front of the ONGC�s Assam and Assam Arakan Basin complex at Cinnamara outskirts here against the decision of the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to hand over seven oilfields of ONGC�s Assam Asset in Upper Assam to private companies.
The protesters, led by AASU State Organising Secretary Jul Khound along with Jorhat district unit Assistant General Secretary Bijoy Shankar Bordoloi, President and General Secretary of Jorhat Regional unit � Arjunmoni Bhuyan and Partha Pratim Bora respectively � and Executive member of Jorhat Sub-divisional unit of AASU Chandan Bora, staged the demonstration by maintaining social distancing and other safety norms of Covid-19 pandemic rules.
Holding placards, the protesters shouted slogans against the decision to allot the oildfields to private companies.
They said that the decision to hand over oilfields was not in the interest of the State as from the said oilfields, production was going on and a good amount of crude oil was produced. The protesters pointed out that a few years back the oil giant (ONGC) had undertaken rejuvenation of its operations in Assam by introducing new technologies and upgrading infrastructure.
