GUWAHATI, April 3 � The All Assam Students� Union (AASU) today said that the chairman, secretary and the examination controller of the Board of Secondary Education, Assam will have to vacate their chairs if any irregularity appears in the declaration of results of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination.
Dr Samujjal Bhattacharya, adviser, AASU, said, � We will also ensure that disciplinary action is taken against the head examiner, scrutinizer and those responsible for evaluation of answer sheets, if any irregularity is detected.�
The students� body along with six other organisations today met the authorities of SEBA and the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council urging them to initiate immediate steps to avert any irregularity in conducting the examination.
The joint forum also urged the Council to submit the enquiry report into the incident of alteration of question papers at the last moment before April.
The other bodies include the Assam College Principals� Council, Assam High School Teachers� Association, Assam Higher Secondary Teachers and Employees� Association, State Primary School Teachers� Association, Sadou Assam Karmachari Parishad and the Assam College Teachers� Association.
In a joint press conference, the AASU and the representatives of the six organisations briefed the media on the steps it has asked authorities of both the Board and the Council to initiate steps to set accountability and credibility on their respective part.
Dr Samujjal Bhattacharya, while briefing the media informed that the SEBA has agreed to put in place a special mechanism to ensure that the students get justice at any cost.
�Credibility of SEBA and Council must be restored and we will keep a close vigil on the developments,� Dr Bhattacharya said, adding that the SEBA chairman has agreed to visit Gogamukh and Kamalabari examination centres soon where examination will be re-conducted.
Representatives of all the six organisations were unanimous in stating that the Board and the Council must take ardent steps to put in place a fool-proof mechanism to conduct examinations.
