AASU flays delay in setting up bard�s samannay kshetra

DOOMDOOMA, Sept 9 - The Saikhowa regional committee of AASU staged a three hour sit-in protest near the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Setu on the occasion of the bard�s 92nd birthday on Saturday against the delay by the State Government in constructing the proposed Dr Bhupen Hazarika North East Cultural Sammany Kshetra.

AASU termed Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal a liar as he failed to keep the promise he had made a year ago. The AASU unit urged the Government to start construction work of the project immediately.

On the other hand, Abhinava Natya Mancha (ANAM), an amateur theatre group of Doomdooma in association with Doomdooma Sakha Sahitya Sabha (DSSS) observed the 92nd birthday of Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika on Saturday evening at Doomdooma Sakha Sahitya Sabha Bhawan.

The programme began with lighting of the ceremonial lamp and offering floral tributes to the portrait of Sudhakantha by eminent theatre activist Rajiblochan Bora. A few artistes presented the evergreen songs of Sudhakantha in the programme which was anchored by Deben Deka and Nayan Deka, secretaries of DSSS and ANAM respectively.

Tributes were also paid to Sudhakantha by the students and teachers of Lotus Academy here.
