GUWAHATI, May 6 � The All Assam Minority Students� Union (AAMSU) has demanded immediate dissolution of the present Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) to ensure safety and security of the non-Bodos, particularly the Muslims, living in the BTAD areas. Members of the student body also staged a demonstration today in front of the Raj Bhawan in connection with the recent incidents of violence in BTAD areas.
In a memorandum to Governor JB Patnaik, the student body also demanded stern action against those fuelling violence in the BTAD areas. In this respect they specifically named BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary and MLA Pramila Rani Brahma and demanded their immediate arrest for their alleged partisan roles.
The 2003 Bodo Accord be reviewed by taking into consideration the interests of all the communities living in the BTAD areas, it said, adding that the administration of the BTAD areas should be handed over to the Army.
Moreover, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) should be engaged in investigating the BTAD incidents of violence, the student body said.
All legal and illegal arms in possession of the surrendered militants, as well as all sections of the BTAD people should be seized and immediate steps should be taken to rehabilitate those affected in the BTAD incidents with adequate compensation and security, it said.
The next of kin of each of those killed in the BTAD violence should be paid an amount of Rs 10 lakh and each of those injured in those incidents be paid an amount of Rs 5 lakh, it said.
Besides, free and expeditious medical assistance should be provided to those who have received injuries in the incidents of violence.
Meanwhile, the State unit of the CPI-ML today sent a memorandum to the President of India, through the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro) demanding immediate measures to stop the violent incidents in the BTAD areas.
Members of the party also staged a sit-in demonstration on the bank of the Dighalipukhuri in protest against the incidents of violence in the BTAD areas.
It further demanded intervention by the President of India in the BTAD affairs as per provisions of Article 365 of the Constitution of India and resignation of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for his failure to check such heinous incidents.
The party also demanded a CBI inquiry into the BTAD violence and seizure of all illegal arms in the BTAD areas.
