8 Naga encroachers nabbed, border tense

DIPHU, March 21 � Naga miscreants fired in the air indiscriminately at Daldali in Karbi Anglong today.

According to reports received, more than 200 Naga encroachers tried to enter the Daldali Forest Reserve in an attempt to occupy the forest land of Assam. Mukdhya Jyoti Mahanta, SP of Karbi Anglong, stated that the Naga encroachers were probably backed by armed Naga militants during the infiltration.

The SP reiterated that the Naga encroachers backed by militants opened fire indiscriminately in the air at Dikoi village around 1 pm. The State police, too, retaliated with heavy firing. Eight Naga encroachers have been arrested by the police, SP Mahanta added.

The arrested Naga encroachers have been identified as Viekotsolo Koza, Neicho Nejrisuh, Vebu Rhakho, Rhanpsomo Pocesury, Vetsholo Koza, Khocipa Venuh, Gwathonlo Jishing and Solomon Zanane, Mahanta said. He said that the situation along the border is tense, but under control.
