76 kin of martyr families return their mementos

GUWAHATI, Jan 30 - Altogether 76 kin Assam agitation martyr families today returned the mementos given to them as an honour, to the State government in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

This morning, members of those families under the aegis of the Sadou Asom Jatiya Swahid Pariyal Samanway Rakshi Parishad and All Assam Students� Union marched from Swahid Nyas to the office premises of Deputy Commissioner Kamrup (Metro) district and handed over the mementos to the officials of the district administration.

According to the two organizations, other families martyr would also return the mementos in a phased manner through their respective district administration in the coming days.

Family members of the martyrs stated that they would move Home Minister Rajnath Singh over the issue as Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was yet to sit for a meeting with them.

On December 10, 2016 the State government conferred the mementos along with one-time financial aid to every martyr family in a function held at Khanapara here.
