HAILAKANDI, Feb 27 - Altogether 74 students were expelled for adopting unfair means in the ongoing HSLC/ANM examinations in Hailakandi district.
Disclosing this, Inspector of Schools, Rajiv Kumar Jha said that out of the 74 , 23 were expelled during the Social Science exam followed by 19 in General Mathematics, 15 in English, 13 in General Science and 4 in Assamese (E). There were altogether 620 absentees.
Moreover, two invigilators have been issued show-cause notices for negligence of duties.
Jha said that the district administration has taken a number of initiatives to curb unfair means by forming flying squads, engaging supervising officers and enforcing Section 144 CrPC within a 200 metre radius of the examination centres to stop assembling of five or more persons. Examination is going on in 16 examination centres across the district.
Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli visited one of the examination centres located at Harkishore High School on Monday to oversee the conduct of the examination. She went round the examination halls and motivated the invigilators to remain pro-active for the tasks at hand. Jalli instructed the headmistress Sankari Chakraborty to ensure examination is held in a free and fair manner. She also exchanged pleasantries with the students and wished them good luck.
�The headmistress, teachers, students and parents appreciated the academic interest of the Deputy Commissioner,� said Jha, adding that her visit will certainly boost the morale of good students, it will also act as a deterrent to those resorting to cheating.
Three flying squads have been formed with a control room to keep a tab on the activities during the examinations and to initiate appropriate action. Twenty-one academicians have been engaged as supervising officers.
This year, 7,002 candidates are appearing in the HSLC and AHM exams and 3,727 in the HS final examinations in Hailakandi district.
Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli and Superintendent of Police, Mohneesh Mishra are closely monitoring the examination process.
