67th Republic Day celebrated across State

GUWAHATI, Jan 28 - Along with the rest of the country, the 67th Republic Day was celebrated on Tuesday with enthusiasm and fervour across the State. Our Correspondents report:

Dibrugarh: The Republic Day was celebrated at the Chowkidinghee ground here with great pomp and show. State Forest and Environment Minister Atuwa Munda, who attended the function as the chief guest, unfurled the Tricolour.

The minister took the salute at the march past by contingents of Assam Police, Home Guards, National Cadet Corps, Scouts and Guides and several other groups including schoolchildren.

Thousands of people attended the celebration. Munda also paid tribute to the freedom fighters.

In keeping with the celebration, the district administration also felicitated several distinguished personalities for their contributions towards the society in various fields. Some of the personalities who were feted include sports journalist Sachindralal Bhuyan, senior journalist Ikbal Ahmed and a few others.

Prizes were also given away to the winners of the exhibition and the contingents of the march past.

The Republic Day was also celebrated in government institutions, schools and colleges. At Dibrugarh University, the Tricolour was hoisted by Prof Alak Kumar Buragohain, Vice Chancellor, at the University playground.

The Vice Chancellor also took the salute at the march past by students along with the bands played by the students of the University Model School and the students of the Centre for Studies in Physical Education. Prof Alak Kumar Buragohain also addressed the gathering.

Some of the employees of the university were also presented certificates of appreciation along with cash awards for their outstanding performance in 2015. The winning platoons in the march past competitions were also awarded with certificates by Prof Mrinalendu Narayan Dutta, Registrar of the University.

A friendly walkathon competition was also organised for the teachers and staff as part of the Republic Day celebration.

Jonai: The Republic Day was celebrated in Jonai subdivision of Dhemaji district with multiple programmes. Unfurling the Tricolour at Gandhi Maidan, Jonai SDO(C) Atul Kumar Sharma appealed to the local people to maintain peace and communal harmony to usher in development.

Highlighting the developmental work of various government departments, the SDO urged the people to take active part in the welfare schemes. He also took the guard of honour presented by contingents of the AP Bn, Scouts & Guides and schoolchildren.

Badarpur: The Republic Day was celebrated with much gaiety and enthusiasm at Badarpur. The main function was held at the NC College playground, where the Tricolour was hoisted by the Badarpur Circle Officer in the presence of distinguished citizens, intellectuals, government officials, students, teachers and people from various walks of life.

The main function of the Republic Day in Karimganj district was held at the Karimganj Government Higher Secondary School playground, where the Tricolour was hoisted by minister Siddek Ahmed.

The minister appealed to all sections of people to maintain peace and unity for the successful implementation of the development schemes of the Government. Ahmed also took the salute at the march past by security personnel.

Diphu: The 67th Republic Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour and pomp at the Karbi Anglong Sports Association Stadium, Diphu, defying the 36-hour Karbi Anglong bandh called by militant outfit Karbi People�s Liberation Tiger (KPLT).

The function was organised by the district administration where State HAD Minister Kharsing Engti unfurled the Tricolour and took the salute at the march past by police and NCC contingents and school, college and university students.

It may be mentioned here that the students of Assam University, Diphu campus, participated in the parade for the first time this year.

Showcasing different ethnic cultures, tableaux were displayed by the Department of Agriculture, Sericulture and NRC. The Republic Day was also celebrated in every development block offices, where government officials, public and students participated.

A friendly football match was played between DC XI and Journalists XII on the occasion.

Rangiya: The Republic Day was celebrated at the Rangiya HS School playground. Local MLA Ghanashyam Kalita hoisted the Tricolour as the chief guest of the programme.

Freedom fighters and other distinguished persons were also felicitated on the occasion.

Earlier, the MLA took the salute at the march past by police personnel, troupes of Scouts & Guides, students of Rangiya College and other schools of the locality.

Cultural programmes were staged by children and students of different institutions of the locality. Former MLA Ananta Deka, SDO (C) Mukut Phukan, SDPO, Rangiya, and other government officials were also present on the occasion.

Biswanath Chariali: The Republic Day was celebrated at Biswanath Chariali and Gohpur in Sonitpur district, too, along with the rest of the country. The Tricolour was unfurled at the Kachari Maidan by Dr Mansingh Rangpi, Parliamentary Secretary for Finance, Government of Assam, followed by the presentation of the guard of honour by Assam Police, CRPF, NCC, Scouts & Guides, and others.

Dr Rangpi paid floral tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Cheniram Das Children�s Park. Biswanath MLA Prabin Kumar Hazarika, Biswanath SP Manabendra Debroy, Biswanath SDO (C) Pallav Gopal Jha, Biswanath District Additional Sessions Judge Malaya Debroy, former minister Noorjamal Sarkar, Circle Officer, Biswanath, Sanjiv Dalai and others were also present on the occasion.

A number of eminent personalities of Biswanath subdivision were also felicitated in the programme.

At Gohpur, Parliamentary Secretary for Transport Manika Borah hoisted the Tricolour amid much enthusiasm in the presence of the local people and government officials.

Former minister Ripun Borah, Gohpur SDO (C) Sanjay Dutta and several other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Successful farmers, Anganwadi and ASHA workers and meritorious students were felicitated in the programme.

Digboi: The Republic Day was celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm at various public places, including schools and other educational institutions, in Margherita subdivision.

The event was celebrated centrally at the Central Field of Margherita with a daylong programme in the presence of a large number of people. The chief guest was Raju Sahu, Parliamentary Secretary to the Government of Assam.

The chief guest hoisted the Tricolour on the occasion. Local MLA and former minister Pradyut Bordoloi, SDO (Civil) Sanjeev Kumar Barhoi and several other dignitaries also attended the programme.

At Digboi, the Tricolour was hoisted by PK Gogoi, ADC of Tinsukia district, at the Jubilee Field. The flag hoisting was followed by an address by the chief guest, and felicitation and award of prizes to persons and institutions for excellence in varied fields.

Mirza: Parliamentary Secretary Rekibuddin Ahmed hoisted the Tricolour on the occasion of the 67th Republic Day, organised centrally in Kamrup district by the Kamrup district administration at Amingaon.

Earlier, he paid tribute at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. The district administration also felicitated two freedom fighters of the district � Katiram Boro and Bharat Baishya � during the celebration.

Students of various schools took part in a cultural show, and the district administration conferred awards on the groups which secured positions in the cultural show and parade.

At Mirza, Palasbari Revenue Circle Officer Pankaj Chakraborty hoisted the Tricolour at the office of the Palasbari Revenue Circle. The day was also celebrated in various government and private organisation offices.

Haflong: With the rest of the country, the 67th Republic Day was celebrated in a grand way by the district administration of Dima Hasao at the NL Daulagupu Sports Complex, Haflong.

Namrup: At BVFCL, the Tricolour was hoisted by SD Singh, Director (Production) at Gandhi Field in the presence of a large gathering. At NTPS, the Tricolour was hoisted by General Manager BC Bordoloi.

Morigaon: The day was observed in Morigaon with enthusiasm. In the presence of a huge gathering, the Tricolour was hoisted at Tarun Ram Phukan playground by Dr Nazrul Islam, Food and Civil Supplies Minister.

The minister took the salute at the march past by the police, CRPF, NCC and students from different colleges and schools of the district.

Earlier, tributes were paid at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi by the minister at Morigaon Gandhi Bhawan.

Sonari: The 67th Republic Day was celebrated with a daylong programme. NN Nath, Additional Deputy Commissioner and in-charge SDO(C), Charaideo, hoisted the Tricolour at the public playground.

He took the salute of police, NCC and Scouts & Guides who participated in the parade. In his address, Nath gave a briefing on the ongoing welfare programmes in Charaideo subdivision. He also paid tribute at the swahid bedi and garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Sonari College campus.
