67,546 families living in city hills: Minister

GUWAHATI, July 25 - State Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Pallab Lochan Das today told the Assembly that a total of 67,546 families are living on the hills of Guwahati (Kamrup-Metro).

The minister, who was replying to a query by AGP legislator Ramendra Narayan Kalita, said that a process of granting land pattas (ownership right) to these families was on as per the Land Act, 1989, and rules and guidelines of the Forest Department and the Guwahati Development Department.

Das added that the State government was aware of the working of the land mafia which had been forcibly occupying land in the city. He said the authorities were taking action against such elements as per provisions of the Assam Land Grabbing (Prohibition) Act, 2016.
