60 Gohpur villages hit by floods

TEZPUR, July 16 - Altogether 60 villages under the Gohpur subdivision in Sonitpur district have been submerged by floodwaters of the Sulengi river following incessant rainfall since the last couple of days.

According to information available, the flood washed away the Brahmajan embankment at four places, inundating the 60 villages. Livestock has been displaced and crops land have been damaged.

Moreover, in areas like Brahmajan, Helem, Magoni, Ghahigaon and Gohpur town, most roads, including those maintained by the PWD, have been damaged due to the flood. The BG rail line has also been damaged in the Gohpur area due to which the inter-city train, running from Rangiya to Murkongselek, had to be stopped for an indefinite time.
