Update: 2010-09-15 00:00 GMT

GUWAHATI, April 4 - Excise sleuths and Wildlife Crime Control Bureau officials seized six tokay geckos by the roadside near the ISBT here late last night.

An Excise official said that the geckos were in a semiconscious state and wrapped in a piece of cloth.

We had a tip-off that the lizards were being transported to Moreh, from where they were supposed to be sent to Southeast Asia. As per our information, some South Indian persons were taking the geckos to Moreh. They, however, managed to give us the slip, he said.

The lizards were produced in the court today and they will be released in the wild when their condition improves.
