5 saved from drowning

JORHAT, July 9 - Five persons had a narrow escape today after they reportedly fell into the Brahmaputra from a country-boat near Nimati Ghat here. However, the five persons were saved from drowning as IWT Staff on a boat named SB Jalkonwari along with local boatmen rescued them.

According to a police source, five milkmen with 14 containers were coming from Jengraimukh in Majuli island on a country-boat and were about 200 metres away from Nimati Ghat when strong currents of the river turned the boat upside down. Witnessing the incident, IWT staff and nearby boatmen came to the rescue of the milkmen who were almost on the verge of drowning. The incident occurred at around 11.30 am.
