GUWAHATI, July 11 - The 1st Battalion of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Guwahati has so far rescued 460 flood-hit people from different areas of the State during the current monsoon season.
In view of the prevailing COVID situation, NDRF rescue teams deployed in flood-affected areas have adopted a two-pronged strategy � rescuing the marooned people and helping them adhere to health department guidelines.
Altogether nine search and rescue teams of NDRF are pre-positioned in Jorhat, Bongaigaon, Kamrup Metro, Barpeta, Cachar, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, Dhemaji and Tinsukia, besides four search and rescue teams of NDRF earmarked for tackling any untoward situation in other flood-affected areas of the State. Moreover, the NDRF control room is keeping a close watch on other vulnerable areas as well.
Today, the NDRF team evacuated 236 marooned villagers in Barpeta district and shifted them to safer places.
The teams are also assisting the district administrations in distribution of masks, conducting screening in inundated areas and maintaining proper social distancing in the present pandemic.
