43 injured in Meghalaya bus accident

SHILLONG, Nov 11 - Forty-three persons were injured after the bus they were travelling in overturned near Mawryngkneng village in East Khasi Hills district this morning.

Among the injured, eight suffered major injuries. Most of the passengers escaped with minor injuries, according to police. 26 persons have been shifted to Shillong Civil Hospital and the rest to Mawryngkneng PHC.

According to police, the people in the bus were Christian pilgrims and were on their way to the State Capital to take part in the Eucharistic procession when the mishap happened.

�The accident happened at 8.45 am today and these people were all from Mawryngkneng. The accident seems to have occurred due to the negligence of the driver,� a police official said.
