GUWAHATI, Feb 20 - A four-day bird count was organised by the Department of Zoology, B Borooah College in the college campus in tandem with the �Great Backyard Bird Count� (GBBC) under the aegis of the Bird Count India for the second successive year, said a press release.
The February 14-17 exercise was carried out in two shifts each day. While the morning shift started at 6 am and continued till 7 am, the evening shift was held from 3.45 pm to 4.45 pm.
Altogether 22 species of birds were spotted in the morning session on the first day, while 14 species were spotted in the evening session. On Day 2, 21 species were spotted in the morning session and in the evening session 13 species were spotted. On February 16, 26 species were spotted and on the last day 23 birds were spotted.
During the 4-day event a total of 30 species were spotted that included black rumped flameback, fulvous breasted woodpecker, sprangled drongo, black hooded oriole, brown shrike, white throated kingfisher, etc.
Students of the zoology and botany departments participated in the event. After every session the students uploaded the result of their observation in the eBird app to help birders all over the world know about the ecosystem of the study area.
