DERGAON, March 31 - One person died and another was seriously injured in an accident over the PHCG Road in Golaghat district under Dergaon Police Station today.
The victim was later identified as Upen Das (60) of Jogania Gaon, 10 kms off Dergaon town.
According to police, the victim along with three others were carrying bamboo in the morning on two handcarts for selling at Dergaon town. It was then that a speeding Bolero pick-up van carrying broiler chicken knocked down Upen, who died on the spot while another person was seriously injured. The driver and handyman of the vehicle fled from the scene after abandoning the vehicle. Police investigation is on.
Our Rangiya Correspondent adds: A Government employee named Hiranya Kakati was killed on the spot this morning at Chepti on NH-31 under Rangiya Police Station when the Pulsar motorcycle he was riding was hit by a speeding truck coming from the opposite side.
In a separate incident that took place at Kaurbaha of Rangiya, a girl named Rani Boro was killed on the spot when an earth- cutting tractor run over the deceased and injured another girl named Sumi Boro in the incident.
