3 held with old currency notes

JORHAT, April 2 - Police on Sunday arrested three persons from a grocery shop, including the shop-owner from Deberapara Chariali under Mariani Police Station in the district after reportedly recovering old currency notes (demonetised) amounting to Rs 6.7 lakh from the possession of the trio.

A police source said that two persons � Jayanta Borbora and Sahabuddin Ahmed � had allegedly brought the demonetised currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 for handing over to Dharmeshwar Lahon, the owner of the shop, when a police team reached the spot and caught all the three men red-handed.

The source said that police received a tip-off about bringing of demonetised currency notes by the two men to give the same to Lahon. Further investigation is on.
