3-day cultural fest from Jan 5 at Jorhat

JORHAT, Dec 10 - The I-CARD (Institution for Culture And Rural Development) based on the outskirts of Baghchung here is organising the seventh edition of Ethnique � a food, music and cultural festival of local communities �from January 5 to 7 on the NGO�s campus.

The I-CARD Director, Father KA Thomas, told this correspondent that songs, music, dances, rituals, life-scene presentations, folktale narration, street theatre and food stalls to be spread around the campus during the three-day festival, is expected to draw visitors in large numbers.

The director further said that a photo and a handloom and handicraft exhibitions would be organised as part of the festival.

�We focus on a different ethnic community each year, inviting them from across the hills and valleys of Northeast to enhance communal bonding and understanding. This time, we will have the Bodo troupes to present their cultural practices,� he said.

He said that in the earlier editions of the festival, the tea tribes and Naga communities had participated.

An added attraction of the festival this time will be a Kids� Ethnic Fashion Show competition for children between the age group of 7 to 12, he added.

Ethnique is an effort aimed at the internal transformation and external image building of local communities. It is intended to be a model for any community to follow suit, he said.
