UDALGURI, March 23 - Two candidates, one each from Udalguri and Mazbat LACs withdrew their nominations on Monday. A DIPRO press release issued by R Hazarika, in-charge, DIPRO said that Jinus Daimari from 69-Udalguri (ST reserved) and Vikram Singh Basumatary from 70-Mazbat LAC withdrew their nominations here at the office of the Returning Officer on Monday.
With this, there are 26 candidates in the fray from the three constituencies under Udalguri district, including six from Udalguri, 11 from Mazbat and nine from Panery LACs.
Election observer : B Srinivash, election observer (general) on Monday visited 26 polling booths under the Mazbat LAC in Udalguri district which were identified as �very sensitive� and held parleys with the district administration and security forces to hold elections there in a peaceful environment under foolproof security coverage. This was informed to this correspondent by Dimple Baruah, Assistant Commissioner and one of the in-charges of the Media Consultative Monitoring Cell (MCMC) formed for the purpose of the election.
Baruah also informed that the election observer held a threadbare meeting in the evening regarding peaceful completion of the Assembly elections in the district with various political parties contesting the elections from the three legislative constituencies of the district.
Rs 2.05 lakh seized: A flying squad led by Ramanuj Hazarika, the district information and public relations officer of Udalguri district, along with a team of Udalguri Police seized a cash amount of Rs 2.05 lakh from a person at Daifamkhuti under Udalguri LAC on Sunday, informed a DIPRO press release.
In yet another incident on Sunday, a flying squad led by Dimple Baruah, Assistant Commissioner of Udalguri district along with a team of Udalguri Police seized 12 concrete posts from a tractor meant for distribution in Kanpur village under Jaberitola VCDC in Udalguri LAC, owned by Rafael Tudu, chairman of the Jaberitola VCDC and brought the driver for interrogation at Udalguri police station.
