Update: 2010-09-15 00:00 GMT

GAURIPUR, Feb 4 Altogether 22 candidates remained in the battle for four seats of Gauripur Town Committee. This time nine candidates will fight the polls scheduled to be held on February 9 as independents. It has been observed that most of the independent candidates have filed their nominations against the party candidates after being deprived of party tickets.

As the Gauripur LAC is represented by BPF MLA BK Mushahary, the party is trying to capture the town committee and the MLA is campaigning aggressively for votes.

The AGP has fielded a female candidate for ward No. 1, but her prospect is not so bright, according to the observers. Of the four seats in the town committee, two are reserved for female candidates.

Already various corners of the town have been flooded with posters and banners, with the candidates campaigning door to door to win the hearts of the voters. There are over 18,000 voters under the town committee.
