AGARTALA, Feb 13 - Two persons � Kastharai Tripura and Ananta Tripura � who were found guilty of the rape and murder of a minor girl, were sentenced to death by a special district court at Udaipur today.
Soon after the verdict, the two were taken into jail custody amid tight security. They have been lodged in the Gomati district jail.
According to the FIR, the 15-year-old girl, who went to a school in an area under the Nutan Bazar Police Station, was whisked away by the duo to an unknown location on December 5, 2018, where she was raped. Later, the girl�s body was found in a nearby jungle, triggering a public outcry.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim�s brother, the police registered a case. The Investigating Officer, after a thorough probe, submitted a charge sheet before the special court against Kastharai Tripura and Ananta Tripura under relevant sections.
