TURA, Sept 3 - Continuing the recent trend of lynching of extortionists in the Garo Hills region, two dacoits of a group of four were caught and later killed by an angry mob in Dokongsi village, about 140 kms from here. The incident happened at about 7 pm last night near Kharkutta in North Garo Hills.

According to police, the four were from a dacoit gang and entered the village to collect extortion money from villagers when they were surrounded. The villagers caught two of the four dacoits and began to beat them up. Two from the group, however, managed to escape.

We have managed to identify one of those killed and the body has been handed over to the family. The other is still to be identified. The two killed were small time dacoits who were on an extortion spree when they were caught and beaten up, said SP NGH, Ramesh Singh.
