15 children rescued by Dhekiajuli locals

TEZPUR, April 27 - The local people of Dhekiajuli town area rescued 15 children here on Monday from a child trafficking gang. The locals also nabbed two persons and handed them over to the police later.

According to reports, the children were being taken to Rangiya Railway Station in a Bolero from Ghoramari village in Singri area under Dhekiajuli police station in Sonitpur district to be sent to Delhi. The rescued children are in the age group of 10 to 16 years.

The movement of the vehicle in Dhekiajuli town carrying the children triggered an alarm among the people. A moment later, the locals intercepted the vehicle and interrogated the two persons travelling along with the children. When they failed to give a convincing reply, they gheraoed the vehicle and informed the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) of Barchala, Rupa Bora, about the incident.

Following the information, Bora along with other officials rushed to the spot and rescued the children. Later, the two persons, identified as Pitar Orang and Rebanti Kheria, were handed over to the Dhekiajuli police station officials.

After preliminary interrogations, the police arrested the two accused and sent the children back to their homes.
