13 monkeys died consuming 'unnatural substances', says postmortem report

SILCHAR, JUNE 9: In a major development in the incident of 13 monkeys found dead in the reservoir of the PHE water treatment plant in Katirail under Cachar district on June 7, the post-mortem report on Monday claims that the monkeys might have consumed 'unnatural substances.'

Dr Rubel Das, block veterinary officer at Kalain, who did the post-mortem of the monkeys, while talking to The Assam Tribune said, " it is suspected, the monkeys might have consumed unnatural substances. The post-mortem also revealed stomuch haemorage in varrying degrees in each of the monkeys."

He added that the report has been sent to the Forest Department.

Officials of Forest Department including Karimganj Forest Division ACF Dr Saumitra Das and Range Officer Kalain Pinku Singh visited the spot at Katirail under Katigorah constituency and inspected the issue.

Officials of the PHE department are working on the alternative reservoir in order to supply water to the villagers in the proximity.
