126th Khongjom Day observed

GUWAHATI, April 24 - The 126th Khongjom Day, the day of Anglo Manipur War of 1891, was observed by the Manipuri National Council (MNC), Hojai district committee at Geeta Mandir, Hojai on April 23, stated a press release.

The programme began with the flag hoisting and floral tributes at the statue of Major Paona Brajabasi, the great martyr of Khongjom War, which was followed by a seminar on �Rights and Movements of Manipuris in Assam�. The seminar was chaired by W Joykumar, associate professor of ADP College, Nagaon and Dr Hawaibam Herojit, Dr Aheibam Rishikesh, Swapan Singha and Dijamani Sarmah presented papers on the relevant issues. The programme concluded with an open session which was presided over by Loitongbam Biswajit, president, MNC, Hojai district committee and the keynote address was delivered by Kayenpaibam Hrishikesh, secretary, MNC, Hojai district.
