12 killed, 15 hurt in road mishap

DIMAPUR/IMPHAL, Jan 5 � At least 12 people were killed and 15 others injured when a bus they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a gorge at Piphema in Nagaland along National Hghway-2, Imphal-Dimapur road, police said on Thursday.

Piphema is located at around 40 kilometres towards Kohima from Dimapur.

The incident happened last night at around 10 when a Shillong-bound Manipur passenger bus, which was carrying about 50 passengers, including children skidded off the road and plunged into a 300-feet deep gorge after

the driver lost control, killing 12 people and injuring another 15.

The ill-fated bus with registration number MN01-1833, which belongs to Network Travels, police sources said. However, they made no mention whether children were among the dead or injured.
