SILCHAR, Nov 6 - The All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students Association (ACKHSA) on Tuesday called for a 12-hour Barak Valley bandh on November 7 in protest against the recent killing of a resident of Cachar district in Mizoram.

Rupam Nandi Purakayastha, the student bodys adviser, told reporters at a press conference here that the bandh will be from 5 am to 5 pm. This bandh is being called protesting the attempts made by the Mizos to encroach upon Assam territory and the killing of a person from Cachar in the neighbouring State.

He further claimed that China and other agencies are adding fuel to the tension along the Assam-Mizoram border and a conspiracy is being hatched to fuel unrest in Assam.

The student leader has urged upon the Centre to impose the Presidents Rule in the border areas and also pressed for involving the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the recent incidents at the inter-state border in Lailapur.

Meanwhile, the Cachar district administration has beefed up security arrangements across the district ahead of the bandh call.
