12-day fair on rural products under way

GUWAHATI, Dec 11 - Minister of Panchayat and Rural Development Naba Kumar Doley today inaugurated the SARAS Fair at the Ganesh Mandir Indoor Stadium. The Fair is being organised by the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission.

The Minister, while delivering his inaugural speech, said the event will provide a platform to rural artisans to showcase their skills and products. He hoped that the Fair will not only display the products of the rural artisans and craftsmen but also enable them to interact and learn from the other participants from different states. Doley also flagged off a mobile awareness campaign named �Awareness on Wheels� during the inaugural session.

The Sale of Articles of Rural Artisans Society (SARAS) Fair�s objective is to create awareness about rural products among the urban population and develop new business opportunities for the rural artisans/SHGs. The Fair has about 100 stalls across 17 states. It will continue till December 22.

The 12 days� event will also have interactive sessions and workshops related to entrepreneurship development, skilling of youths, leadership building, health and nutrition of women and children, and scientific methods of livestock management. Cultural programmes will also be held during the Fair.
