ZORO leader Thangmawia dead

AIZAWL, July 20 - Prominent activist for re-unification of all the ethnic Mizos into a single administrative unit, R Thangmawia, died in Geneva at around 12.45 Indian time today.

Zo Re-unification Organisation (ZORO) officials said Thangmawia was found unconscious inside the bathroom in his hotel room in Geneva and died after he was taken to hospital.

He was 83, and is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.

Thangmawia, a former senator in the erstwhile underground �Mizo Government-in-exile� under the leadership of late Laldenga, was elected as the president of the ZORO in 1990, the post he held till date.

Family sources said Thangmawia was a diabetic patient and most likely died due to stroke.

He was in Geneva to attend the five-day eighth UN Session on Expert Mechanism on the Rights of the Indigenous People to be held from today. � PTI

Centre assures support for rehab centre in Sikkim

New Delhi, July 20 - The Centre has assured support for establishing a new Composite Rehabilitation Centre at a cost of Rs 60 crore in Sikkim.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion of Samajik Adhikarita Shivir for free distribution of aid and assistive devices for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) under the ADIP Scheme of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities at Gangtok, Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thaawar Chand Gehlot assured support for the project, a statement here said. � PTI
