AIZAWL, Nov 28 - Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga was today re-elected as the president of the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) unopposed.

Party sources said Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia was also elected unopposed as the senior vice president of the party, while former Lok Sabha member Vanlalzawma and former legislator Lalthlengliana were elected as vice presidents. Former minister K Vanlalauva was elected as treasurer.

The elected office-bearers of the MNF were fielded as the official nominees for the respective posts by the 33-member nomination committee, headed by Zoramthanga, for organisational elections of the party. All the nominees were declared as elected unopposed by the returning officer, Dr R Ramthara, as no other nominations were filed till 3 pm on Thursday, the deadline for filing nominations.

Significantly, MNF stalwarts Health Minister Dr R Lalthangliana (incumbent vice president) and former Home Minister R Tlanghmingthanga (incumbent vice president) were dropped from the list of nominees, which had created the impression that there was a rift in the MNF leadership.
