Zoo gets new inmates

GUWAHATI, March 18 - The Assam State Zoo today got nine new inmates, all brought from the Kanpur Zoo as part of an exchange programme.

The new inmates include eight crocodiles, 20 cockatiels, two emus and two ostrich chicks.

In return, the State Zoo gave two pelicans, two four-horned antelopes (chousingha) and four sangais. They were brought in a train and reached the State Zoo this evening.

�All are in good health. We will release the crocodiles immediately for the visitors to see. The birds will be kept in quarantines,� Zoo DFO Tejas Mariswamy said.
