Writer Arundhatee Dutta passes away

GUWAHATI, Oct 8 - Writer and a pioneer in Assamese news reading in television, Arundhatee Dutta passed away in New Delhi last night. She was 61.

Daughter of noted Assam Movement leader late Nibaran Bora and wife of social activist Prof Deven Dutta, she had been undergoing treatment at the AIIMS, New Delhi, for the past two-and-a-half months.

Dutta authored a number of books, besides translating several more including the works of Taslima Nasrin. A pioneer in TV news reading in Assam, she was an accomplished Assamese news reader in Guwahati Doordarshan and Akashvani.

Some of her literary works are Andhakarat Jonakee Man, Eeshwarar Prithivit Adam aru Eve, Atmajar Atmanusandhan (based on the life of Nibaran Bora), Arundhatee Duttar Derkuri Galpa, Sukh-Asukhor Jugalbandi and Jeevanar Bhaskarjya Manuh Garhar Kamarshal.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Save Guwahati Build Guwahati and thinker Hiren Gohain, among others, have condoled her death.

The Electronic Media Forum Assam (EMFA) has expressed grief at the death of Dutta. In a condolence message, EMFA said that Dutta � apart from being an accomplished writer � was also a popular Assamese news reader.

She leaves behind her husband, a daughter and a son.
