Workshop on Sowa-Rigpa

GANGTOK, March 1 - The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) under the Ministry of AYUSH organised an international workshop on �Preservation and Promotion of Sowa-Rigpa in Asia� here on February 28 and 29.

Sowa-Rigpa is an ancient and well documented Indian medical system popular in Trans-Himalayan region, especially in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Darjeeling, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh. It is also practised in countries like Nepal, Bhutan, Mongolia and Russia. With the spread of Buddhism, Sowa-Rigpa also spread to different countries and it was formally recognised and promoted by the Central government as a traditional medical system in India.

The workshop was inaugurated by State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Mani Kumar Sharma.
