Workshop for tourist guides

DIBRUGARH, Dec 12 - A ten-day workshop for tourist guides is under way at DHSK College under the joint initiative of the district administration and Information and Career Guidance Centre, DHSK College. The objective of the workshop is to train local youths of the Jokai region apart from other aspirants as tourist guides. Speaking at the inaugural function, Additional Deputy Commissioner Ankur Bharali said that the district administration is determined to develop the Jokai Botanical Garden as an attractive and informative destination, both for tourists and visitors. He said that Dibrugarh is undoubtedly a very good tourist destination but for tourism to develop there must also be good tourist guides.

He thanked the Principal of the college Dr Sashi Kanta Saikia for collaborating with the district administration in this regard. Other dignitaries in the inaugural function included Geetashri Lachit, Assistant Commissioner, Narayan Das, ACF, Sanjib Bordoloi, Range Forest Officer, Dibrugarh and Dijen Neog, Jokai Forest Beat Officer, Dibrugarh. After the inaugural function, the first session was conducted by the Principal of the college himself, who has a PhD in Tourism. He talked in detail on the concept of tourism, a press release stated.
