JORABAT, Jan 22 - A herd of wild elephants destroyed three houses in Hahara village last night, besides causing heavy damage to an ancient Shani Mandir.

This herd of elephants has been repeatedly causing heavy destruction in three villages of Hahara gaon panchayat during the last few days.

The affected villagers alleged that the Sonapur regional forest office has not taken any step to send the jumbos back into the forest despite being repeatedly informed about the stampede caused by them during the last few days in Malibagh, Nonke Bijni and Milanpur villages.

The villagers demanded compensation for the damage caused and sought temporary forest camps to protect the villages from the pachyderms.
