Water level of Barak river crosses danger level

SILCHAR, July 16 - At a time when vast areas across the State have been adversely hit by flood, the rising water level of Barak river is posing threat to southern Assam as well.

As per inputs received from the Central Water Commission, water level has crossed the danger level of 19.83 metre at Annapurna Ghat on Wednesday evening and currently steadied at 20.13 metre (till 7 pm) on Thursday.

Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli said that the rising trend of water level is a cause of concern and steps are being taken to combat any eventuality. Shamim Ahmed Laskar, Project Officer DDMA said that NDRF, SDRF teams have been put on alert.
