DIBRUGARH, March 15 - Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu will attend the eighteenth convocation ceremony of Dibrugarh University (DU) as chief guest on March 18 and deliver the convocation address, informed DU Registrar Dr HC Mahanta.
Dr Mahanta told newsmen here today that all arrangements, including the security, have been put in place to meet the necessary protocol during the arrival of the Vice President at the varsity.
The convocation ceremony is scheduled in the evening as Naidu is expected to arrive here in the afternoon.
Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi, who is the Chancellor of the varsity, will confer the degrees on nearly 10,000 students, including PhD, MPhil and postgraduate degrees, before the arrival of the Vice President.
Dr Binod Borah, Joint Registrar (Academic), DU, informed that Dibrugarh University would also confer D Litt (honoris causa) degree on noted poet and critic Nilamani Phookan in recognition of his invaluable scholarly contribution to the fields of literature, academics and public life through his creative works and critical writings.
Padmashree recipient Udhhab Bharali will be given DSc (honoris causa) degree in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the fields of science, innovation and social welfare, he added.
