JORHAT, Jan 21 - Paban Bordoloi, Commissioner of Ward Number 15 of Jorhat Municipal Board (JMB) has assumed charge as the Vice-Chairman of the JMB.

JMB Chairman Jayanta Borkakati told The Assam Tribune that Bordoloi, whose name was announced by the party, was administered oath of office by the Jorhat Additional Deputy Commissioner FR Laskar at the conference hall of the civic body.

The post of JMB Vice-Chairman has been lying vacant since November 24 last year after the then vice-chairman Anup Ghosh Dastidar resigned citing personal reasons.

Borkakati too had assumed charge as the JMB Chairman on September 21 last year after the Board faced a crisis following stepping down of earlier chairperson Aruna Dutta (member of ward number 1) on August 3, 2017.

Though the party had announced the name of Borkakati as the next Chairman, he could not take charge immediately as nine out of 12 BJP ward commissioners had refused to accept him as the chairman. However, the party leadership succeeded in getting the nine ward commissioners agree to accept Borkakati as the chairman.

The JMB, having 19 wards, is run by the BJP having 12 ward members and rest by the Congress.
