Veteran scribe passes away

GUWAHATI, Aug 2 - Veteran journalist Prakash Kumar Jha, who was a well-known name in Hindi journalism of Assam, breathed his last on Saturday night. He was 64.

Last night, he complained of chest pain and his family members immediately shifted him to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where the doctors declared him brought dead.

Jha had spent more than 30 years in journalism and worked in various newspapers like the Dainik Purvoday, the Purvanchal Prahari, the Uttarkal, the Calcutta Sanmarg and the Indian Nation. Recently, he retired as a sub-editor from the Dainik Purvadaoy.

A recipient of State journalist pension, Jha hailed from Bihar and had been in Assam since 1989. His last rites will be held at the Bhootnath crematorium here. Jha is survived by wife and three daughters.
